TEOBALDO GERMANO founder and first president of the winery "Sociale di Barolo"(wine cooperative)
The documented roots that evidence the presence of the Germano family's in the wine tradition of Barolo, show Teobaldo Germano as the founder and first president of the Barolo wine growers cooperative winery, founded in 1902. The winery vinified almost exclusively Nebbiolo grapes and obtained numerous awards and mentions: in 1903 the gold medal in Alba, in 1905 in Cuneo and Turin, where it was also awarded with the cup of his Majesty the King, at the time the highest honor that could receive a wine. The winery was active until 1930 when members who gave the grapes slowly started theyr own business and come up with the first private wine cellars, which later marked the country's history and its extraordinary wine. In the first period in which the company Germano was born, from 1908 to 1936 the first cellar was at the family house in Via Alba Barolo, then following the dissolution of the cooperative winery, the locals were purchased by Germano Angelo and so became the new cellar in Via Roma 65.

Encouraged by his grandfather, Angelo founded his company, also helped by his wife who brought as dowry some interesting vineyards. The company was founded in the same year in which was born his first son Davide, unfortunately during the birth of the second child, his wife died and a few years later Angelo followed her leaving to the young Davide the winery and to provide for the family, including brothers and stepmother whose father had remarried.
DAVIDE GERMANO founded the Consortium for the Protection of Barolo and Barbaresco
The attachment to the Langhe and its wines is handed down so visceral that there is not only the desire to have his own business producing a great Barolo and then income but there is a strong desire to promote this wine, to act in first person for the recognition of its peculiar qualities. David Germano with a few decades ahead of the birth of the concept of DOC and DOCG, will promote the Barolo and founded in 1934, along with other 2 growers (one was Giovanni Gaja) and a priest, the Consortium for the Protection of Barolo and Barbaresco.
DAVIDE GERMANO buys the premises of the Cantina Sociale di Barolo
The business grew and so, taking advantage of the dissolution of the Social wine cellar, Davide decided to venture a major purchase, and, by borrowing a large sum, buy now empty premises of the Social cellar and those on the upper floors that were Albergo Svizzero, turning them into their home. But thanks to his tenacity, established at a young age, the sale of wine and the sale of grapes go particularly well and allow not only to pay off the debts, but to buy a farm with its vineyards in Bussia of Monforte d'Alba, the "dardi" (mentioned among the historical cru ) one of the best areas of the entire Barolo territory.
Born GERMANO ANGELO (junior) first winemaker in the family
The same passion is to be found in the son Angelo (junior) he was born in 1942 and attended the Technical Institute Wine (one of the oldest institutions of Italy). Angelo then graduated in Viticulture and Enology Technology, and his specialization is in Herbalist and Aromateria and liqueur, in fact the secret recipe of the Barolo Chinato Gatorosso was invented by him.
GERMANO ANGELO acquires seventeenth-century farm of the Bishop of Alba
The Germano Angelo winery continues to expand and now the locals in the village of Barolo are too small to accommodate an increasing number of barrels and equipment. So between the sixties and seventies, after a decade in a cellar built ad hoc in La Morra, it's time for Angelo to bring out the entrepreneurial courage and buy at auction, from the Bishopric of Alba, the Cascina Giachini in Annunziata with vineyard. Here he builds his new house-cellar, gently nestled in the hills. He, too, perhaps visionary, imaginative surely, forerunner of a way of thinking that belong more properly to subsequent generations, designed with his architect friend, a house that has nothing to do with the aesthetic of the seventies, all on one level, with roofs completely covered in antique tiles with the main objective to merge and adapt with the utmost respect in the surrounding landscape, now a UNESCO heritage site.
ANGELO and JOSE modernize the company and open up markets abroad
Times change, and even the women of the Germano family become more directly present in business management. Oberto Giuseppina, called Jose, Angelo's wife, is a direct grower and coming from a family of winemakers is one of the rare "winegrower" women. Together they design the company's corporate image (at the time a rarity for small businesses), which incorporates the old coat of arms, a mallard, revisited in a more modern way that will feature everything from labels to boxes, from capsules to corck, from the graphic on transportation vehicles to posters and price lists for the first stand to the nascent Verona Fair, Vinitaly. It makes its way a new market: foreign countries.

A new Davide Germano (born in 1979) takes on the long tradition of the family and he too, after attending the Wine School of Alba, dedicated body and soul to the cellar. The target has shifted from the local clientele (Piedmont, Liguria and Lombardy) to foreign, the quality of wine is now supported and driven to the peak of brand new winemaking techniques. Davide has always been a technique soul and sincere weakness for the most sophisticated equipment, he only wants the best for his own winery and its vineyards, at the cost of making sacrifices and renunciations. So he restructures much of the vineyards now become old, he rents some other and renews all the vinification and aging equipment by introducing the use of stainless steel tanks with electronic temperature control. And is perhaps his sister Viviana (1975) to inherit the most visionary and artistic vein of the family, in fact she re-designed the company's image, after finishing their studies at the European Institute of Design in Milan and give her personal touch to the restructuring of Barolo premises that now house the wine shop and the rooms of Casa Svizzera.
New projects and prospects for the future
Times change, and yet it has to deal with the crisis that affects the whole globe, fortunately the quality wine market holds and the effort to produce the best wine possible is rewarded. The wines of Angelo Germano rarely appear in the guides or in trade magazines, this is perhaps a reflection of being directly protagonists for the promotion of their products, they prefer direct contact with end customers, "you want to host and engage in an experience that goes beyond the sale of wine" says Viviana " So is not given too much weight to the changing opinions of the critics, but we focus on honesty and relevance of a refined product and cared for many generations". Who wants to know the most authentic soul of the Langhe cannot help but enjoy a wine accompanied by the most classic dishes, here, in the Langhe, in Barolo wine country. From this idea was born the project for the renovation of the property from which it all began: the former Barolo Social winery, then the Germano Angelo winery and now about to become a magnificent space for the reception of tourists and above all a laboratory in which they will prepare typical products whose raw materials are grown on the farm following the synergistic gardening that can be tasted directly at point of sale, with the wines of Angelo Germano. A portion will also be used as a family museum to honor the many generations who have lived and who have preserved and improved over the centuries our wonderful food and wine and cultural heritage.
